How to Meditate
Created Date: 27 May
Learning how to meditate is a little like riding a bike — you learn by doing. You do need a basic idea of how it all works — how it looks to ride a bike, watching from the outside — but how you really learn is by actually doing it — being on the bike, hands on the bars, feet on the pedals, finding your balance. Meditating is the same way — learn by feel. And, like riding a bike, once you’ve done it you never forget. It’s a skill you have for life. The tutorial offered on this website is designed to get you up and meditating right away — it first gives you an idea of how meditation works, readies you with the essentials, and then walks you through those first wobbly moments until you are off on your own, soaring. For this purpose, we are going to work with mantra meditation, which is particularly easy and an excellent technique for first-time meditators. Virtually all meditation techniques have an anchor — something you hold as the center of our awareness — and for a variety of reasons, mantras are especially easy to work with.
